King Hussein Bridge

KING HUSSEIN BRIDGE
A series documenting the passage between Jordan and The West Bank

“For Palestinians living under Israeli occupation, the bridges are their economic, social and
political lifeline to the Arab world. Most West Bank Palestinians cannot travel abroad through Israeli ports or airports because their travel documents would be stamped by Israel,
making them unacceptable in the Arab world. For Israel, the power to open or close the
bridges is one of its main tools in keeping the West Bank Palestinian population in line.”
-THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN, THE NEW YORK TIMES, July 18, 1987

The King Hussein Bridge, or Alenby Bridge, remains the sole authorized entry and exit point for
Palestinians in and out of The West Bank.
